CLT: How to Travel through NC's Hub airport....

Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is America's 9th busiest airport and is a major hub for American Airlines.

CLT has 6 concourses A-E with the newest being concourse A west that was built alongside the current concourse A. That concourse opened in June of 2018.

The main car rental and short-term parking facility is located adjacent to the terminal building and can be quickly accessed by walking across a walkway outdoors.

Long term parking is adjacent to the airport and offers a value of $10 per day.

There are 4 main TSA Security Checkpoints at CLT, A, B, C, and D.

Checkpoint B is the only checkpoint that offers TSA Pre-Check, lines tend to become long at all checkpoints especially on weekends and holidays, plan accordingly.

All concourses can be reached airside post-security via moving walkways and hallways.

Unfortunately, since American is a hub at CLT, the airport tends to have higher fares to fly in and out of, especially if you are flying on

American non-stop to destinations.

The 11 passenger airlines that fly to and from Charlotte are:

Air Canada Express to YYZ

American Airlines to over 100 destinations Worldwide

Delta Airlines to ATL, CVG, DTW, MSP, and SLC

Contour Airlines to BEK, PKB, and seasonal service to TPA via EAS.

Frontier Airlines to DEN, LAS MCO, PHL, PVD, and TTN

jetBlue Airways to BOS and JFK (JFK service ends October 27th, 2019)

Lufthansa Airlines to MUC

Southwest Airlines to BNA, BWI, DAL, HOU, and MDW

Spirit Airlines to BWI, EWR, FLL, MCO

Ultimate Air Shuttle to PDK and LUK

United Airlines to DEN, EWR, IAD, IAH, and ORD

Concourse A: Is one of two concourses not served by American, the other is A West. This concourse is operated solely by Delta Airlines and is currently undergoing a massive renovation, so it looks the same as the new A West. This is a part of CLT’S 3 billion USD renovations. Concourse A offers a news store and a few places to grab food, such as Wendy's, Cinnabon, Phipps Bistro and Uptown Bar and Grille. This concourse has 13 gates.

Concourse A West: The newest concourse of CLT houses Air Canada Express, Contour Airlines, Frontier Airlines, jetBlue Airways, Spirit Airlines, and United Airlines. This brand-new terminal has a very open and light feeling. It has two floors with an observation deck of the concourse on the top. Services offered in A West include a Panera Bread, 2 Starbucks’, a Hudson News Store, Bath and Bodyworks, and a message bar. The concourse has 9 gates.

Concourse B: It is housed by American Airlines and generally sees Americans Airbus aircraft. It also offers a variety of shops and dining options. The concourse has 16 gates.

Concourse C: It is also housed by American Airlines and generally sees Americans Airbus' and Embraer 175/190 aircraft. It also offers a variety of different shops and dining options. The concourse has 18 gates.

Concourse D: It is the one and only International concourse at CLT and houses the customs department. American and Lufthansa operate out of D. Concourse D is in a large oval shape and has 13 gates.

Concourse E: Is the largest and most traveled through the concourse. E is home to American Eagle which utilizes smaller 30-90 seat regional aircraft. It is, in fact, the world's busiest express terminal and airport. This concourse has 36 gates, some have jet bridges and others just have a door where you walk out onto the ramp. Concourse E can become very crowded and busy at peak travel times throughout the day.

A great tip when flying through CLT, especially if you are flying on American is to frequently check airport monitors for gate and flight info, because the gates change very often.

We hope this guide helps you to travel through Charlotte-Douglas International Airport with a little more ease.
