Sitka: Alaska's Airport Known for their pie's

In the Southeast Alaskan town of Sitka, their small yet unique airport is the number one way to enter and access the surrounding area.

One of the number one restaurants in Sitka is, in fact, at the airport! Why is the restaurant so famous? Well, they have some great tasting pies. It is called Nugget Restaurant & Bakery. It is located landslide in the tiny terminal and serves all kinds of classic diner eats, such as hamburgers, salads, sandwiches, and more. Many people do fly through Sitka just to have lunch and a piece of some famous pie. They have a wide variety of flavors and types, but the Chocolate Peanut Butter is one of the most famous. If you are in a rush, you can order a piece to go and bring it through TSA with no issue at all.

Now more about the airport besides the superb restaurant. The airport has minimal airline service. Alaska Airlines is the primary carrier with daily year-round flights to Ketchikan, Juneau, and Seattle. Delta also services the airport only during the summer with select flights to Seattle as well.

Alaska flies through SIT on many of their famous "Milk Run" flights. We also have a story about flying on that; here is the link if it might be of interest: https://www.worldtravelreport.net/post/the-great-alaskan-milk-run

The airport itself has a very woodsy northern vibe. Exactly what you would expect at an Alaskan airport. The Check-In and Arrivals hall are all on one level versus two at many other airports. The TSA line does not have TSA PreCheck, but the lines are generally very short.

Everything besides the small gate area is landside at the airport. A general store and viewing area are upfront in addition to the restaurant. You can actually buy fresh Alaskan salmon and other Alaskan products at the store to bring with you to wherever your travels take you!

The gate area does get cramped due to the small size, so I would recommend just arriving at the airport in time to get a piece of pie and fly out. All can be done in about an hour before boarding.

Overall this small Southeastern Alaskan airport is quite nice and gives a great experience to its travelers. Plus, it has one of the best airport restaurants around.

We hope this article helps you to travel through the Sitka Rocky Gutierrez Airport with a little more ease!
